Our idea starts from the necessity to investigate space, to explore its features, finding the potential in acoustic properties and using them as a starting point for our research. How is it possible to create a three-dimensional and analogue sound system? How are we able to work with instruments that can move sound in space? Taking advantage from the use of customised industrial items, we will have the possibility to create three-dimensional audio images controlled and designed in real time by the performers. WDWG.art is an interdisciplinary collaborative project between reConvert and different visual artists. For its first conception in 2021 for the IN/OUT Festival (online), were the latinoamericano visual artists Efe Ce Ele and Malena Pafundi who joined the proposal, which emerged in the midst of the pandemic, as a result of exploring new forms of artistic expression and connection with the audience.
This project arises from two main questions: Where does the necessity of developing an online project lie? Is it possible to find conditions that are at the same time artistical and ontological? Before WDWG.art, we had often wondered about the value of online events replacing normal artistic activity during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the interesting aspects that arose is that often the necessity resides in administrative, economic, and not strictly artistic issues. What we wanted to propose was a format where digital interaction was the first axiom of necessity for the existence of the project itself. We realized that very often, online concerts force the listener to a passive position, decontextualized from space and time. This was creating a total discrepancy with the real world, where in fact, every action taken by a user has a consequence on the web. Therefore, we wondered about the possibility of creating a dimension where the participant has not a passive role, but a necessity for the existence of the artistic product itself.
WDWG transforms itself to adapt to a post-pandemic world, where we can see each other and share; but where at the same time we ask ourselves how to readapt formats born in unusual circumstances, for the everyday life that seems to have returned to our lives. Undoubtedly this project was a profound change in how reConvert understands creation, so we want to make it possible to adapt it to the new reality.
This projects is supported by ProHelvetia.

HUI is an evening filling multimedial concert experience for three performers. Everyday we interact with smartphones, computers, tablets and digital devices, that allow us to extend our physical life into the digital world, where we can let our imagination loose, without boundaries. The principles of interacting with this world, are designed to be simple, efficient, to satisfy us. Yet the simplicity also derives from the fact that the digital world knows two states: on and off or one and zero.

Plerome is a musical live videogame that plays with borderline objects between micro and macro scales. Distorted by spatial and perceptual paradoxes, two performers move through an infinite arcade, where actions oscillate between the real ones of the percussive micro-scale and a gloomy and sarcastic virtual world of dysfunctions. Could we invent an instrument that connects us with the tesseract? The intermediate dimension between nano-space and our real geometrical environment? Plerome is inspired by this Steglerian question, whether it is possible for brains and instruments to co-evolve. The piece is dedicated to reConvert as the third part of microbeatlogic.

The concept that interests us is the single percussive impulse as music creator. We can change surface, speed of execution but the impulse is at the core of every percussive action.

The latter communicates via projected text and abstract video images. The former are seated at a table in front of the projection surface. With microphones, a vocoder, synthesizers and various controllers, they ‘speak’ a strange language that is only partly intelligible. Crucially, their vocal utterances are turned into control data that is used to feed various electronic sound and light processes. Amoeba is an ecosystem of independent sound stations and modules, partly operated, partly automatic. This work is about interaction, integration, attraction and repulsion. The room is darkened and the stations are gently lit so that the movements of the objects and the actions of the performers are visible. The stations are sound sources, some electromechanical, some electronic. They create sound structures and transmit them via small microphones and loudspeakers. The listeners may walk freely through the installation room.

Where do we go from here?
“… we have eyes as well as ears, and it is our business while we are alive to use them”.
John Cage
reConvert proposes this project for the IN/OUT Online Festival, where they will collaborate for the creation of a 72 hours non-stop piece of art, created live in collaboration with the visual artists: Efe Ce Ele (COL) and Milena Pafundi (ARG). The project will take place on a website, where people will be able to interact with the artists and to define how the project itself will be developed.
GENESIS
Where does the necessity of developing an online project lie, and is it possible to find conditions that are at the same time artistical and ontological? We have often wondered about the value of online events replacing normal artistic activity during the Covid-19 period. One of the interesting aspects that arisen is that often the necessity resides in administrative, economic, and not strictly artistic issues. What we want to propose is a format where digital interaction is the first axiom of necessity for the existence of the project itself. We realized that very often, online concerts force the listener to a passive position, decontextualized from space and time. This creates a total discrepancy with the real world, where in fact, every action taken by a user has a consequence on the web. We therefore wondered about the possibility of creating a dimension where the participant is not a passive part, but a necessity for the existence of the artistic product itself.

The 11th Edition of Experimentalia Festival invites again to reConvert, in this occasion taking place in streaming.
We will present the extended version of AMOEBA a piece in collaboration with Argentinian composer Fernando Manassero, that we developed from 2018-20.
Previously to the concert, we will have a talk where we show our work together, the processes of the piece, etc.

“Lecture About Myself” is a 30-minute audiovisual performative situation in which two musicians enter into a fictive dialogue with an artificial intelligence. What results could be positioned somewhere between an uncanny conversation with an AI (parts of which are unintelligible) and a hallucinatory/phantasmagoric radio drama.

The percussion duo reConvert project and the collective fuchs&flaneure were commissioned by the Basel Biennale for New Music and Architecture ZeitRäume to carry out an audio walk through the St. Johann Quarter in Basel. The working title of the Audiowalk is “The Great Concert”. In it, about 20 participants, together with a sound artist and two percussionists, will trace the sounds and musicality of the quarter and the urban space. How does the city of Basel sound? How do the people who live there change and shape the sound of the neighbourhood?
An approximately one-hour radio play walk turns urban everyday sounds, pre-produced sounds and the musical interventions of the two percussionists into a grand concert.
